 Tunnel
inspection and rehabilitation can significantly extend tunnel longevity,
whether it presents an alternative to new construction or is motivated
by a change in usage or by tunnel failure or other damage. Tunnels comprise
a significant part of the nation’s aging water, wastewater, and transportation
infrastructure. In parts of the country the situation is exacerbated by
the risks associated with seismic events. Jacobs Associates provides a
range of design and construction management services including underground
facility inspections to assess facility conditions, define design parameters,
and provide preliminary cost and schedule analysis. Jacobs Associates can
design rehabilitation measures involving removal and replacement of damaged
ground support elements, repair of tunnel linings, design of supplemental
linings, and recommendations for ground modification. We consult with owners,
contractors, and other engineering firms on the rehabilitation of heavy
and light rail tunnels, water and wastewater tunnels, and highway tunnels.
Additionally, we have extensive experience in designing tunnel seismic
upgrades.
What sets us apart from our competitors?
Jacobs Associates’ staff is comprised primarily of engineers with
specialized education and practical experience in a variety of disciplines
required for underground projects. These include engineering geology, geotechnical
engineering, rock mechanics, structural engineering, construction engineering,
construction contracting, cost estimating, scheduling, and construction
management. We continue a core principle held by the firm founders: to
hire a mix of bright young engineers and experienced
older engineers to think up better building methods involving fewer resources
and less risk. For tunnel rehabilitation projects, this means our clients
enjoy the benefits both of proven, efficient construction methods and
of state-of-the-art approaches.
