San Vicente to Second Aqueduct Pipeline
The topography along the tunnel’s alignment mandated a high-pressure design. The tunnel features an 8.5-foot-diameter welded steel pipeline that can withstand internal hydrostatic pressures up to 250 pounds-force per square inch.
Jacobs Associates has served as lead designer for the tunnel and shafts, and the owner’s prime design consultant, responsible for delivering the drawings, specifications, engineer’s estimate, and geotechnical baseline report. As such we have managed all design subconsultants, including MWH Americas, GeoPentech, Lintvedt-McColl & Associates, and DeC Constultants. Working closely with the San Diego County Water Authority, Jacobs Associates currently provides construction engineering support to help the owner complete the project as cost-effectively as possible while balancing community and environmental concerns.
