Caldecott 4th Bore
The current construction plan specifies sequential excavation by roadheader. Pre-support measures range from spiling to a pipe canopy. A waterproof membrane will be placed on the inside of the initial support – a mix of reinforced shotcrete, lattice girders, and rock bolts – followed by the construction of a cast-in-place reinforced concrete final lining.
Jacobs Associates’ responsibilities as the technical design lead have involved characterizing the geologic conditions and designing the initial support, final lining, portal excavation support, and seismic design. In addition, Jacobs Associates’ charge includes cost estimating, and managing drainage, waterproofing, ventilation, fire/life safety, and traffic monitoring and control systems design. Other key team members include Parsons as the prime, Geomatrix, EarthTech, ILF, SC Solutions, and Earth Mechanics.
