Southern California:

San Pedro Force Main and Siphon Crossings, Terminal Island
Location: Los Angeles, California
Owner/Client: City of Los Angeles

00The Los Angeles harbor is being deepened to accommodate larger, deeper draft container ships. This project required the construction of a new 30- inch force main and, about one mile further north, two 20- inch siphons to replace the existing sewers, which are within the dredge line of the harbor channel. The force main is contained in a 50- inch steel casing tunneled in place with a 51- inch microtunnel boring machine (MTBM), and the twin siphons in a 72- inch steel casing tunneled in place with a 73- inch MTBM. Jacobs Associates' work on this project involved assisting the City of Los Angeles with the design review and the subsequent contractor submittal review.
