Ojai Ventura River Crossing
Location: Ventura, California
Owner: Ojai Valley Sanitary District (OVSD)
00The Ventura River Siphon, Meiners Oaks Trunk Sewer Relocation project objective was to install a wastewater pipeline beneath the Ventura River. The project owner, Ojai Valley Sanitary District (OVSD), requested a siphon to replace the current sewer line, which was constructed utilizing open-cut construction methods. At the time of original construction, open-cut was an accepted practice. This area is now designated as an environmentally sensitive area and open-cut is no longer preferable.
00The project consisted of construction of an inverted siphon and associated structures along a 3,200 foot alignment beneath the Ventura River, to a point near the eastern abutment of the Highway 150 bridge. The siphon is approximately 3,000 feet long and consists of a steel casing, installed using HDD containing three 10- to 12 inch diameter HDPE carrier pipes and three two-inch diameter HDPE conduits. At the upstream, or north end, of the siphon near the bridge, a hydraulic structure was installed to divert wastewater flows into the three carrier pipes in the siphon. At the downstream, or south end, of the siphon, a hydraulic structure was installed below-grade to divert flows from the siphon into an existing gravity pipeline.
00Jacobs Associates performed design and construction management services. These services included specifications, engineers' cost estimate with schedule, and constructability review. Construction management services included preconstruction meeting, review on contractor's submittals, and status reports during construction. |
