Cottonwood Canyon Wine Caves

00The project consists of approximately 460 feet of wine storage caves excavated in fine grained sands and silt with variable clay content. The sands are moderately to poorly cemented, with material properties ranging from weak rock to loose soil. The tunnels were constructed with an excavated diameter of 13 feet. Jacobs Associates was initially retained by the construction contractor to provide a remedial design of the shotcrete lining in order to satisfy county building regulations. This work included assessment of geotechnical conditions, structural design of a thicker reinforced shotcrete lining, and specification of drainage measures behind the lining. Jacobs Associates was also retained by the winery owner to design stabilization measures for cut slopes adjacent to a portal, as well as site drainage design. During construction, Jacobs Associates provided periodic inspection of construction.
