Stags Leap Wine Storage Cave
00Location: Napa, California
00Owner: Beringer Wine Estates (now owned by Fosters of Australia) - Stags' Leap Winery
00Client: Nordby Wine Caves

00This project is a wine storage cave located in strong andesite and rhyolite. Facilities include a 150-foot-long, 12-foot by 12-foot north access and a 210-foot-long 12-foot by 12-foot long south access. A 16-foot by 16-foot working tunnel joins the ends of the accesses, and sixteen 55-foot-long storage bays extend at intervals from either side of the working tunnel. All openings are horseshoe-shaped. Cut-and-cover steel arch and shotcrete structures were built at the portals. During construction, Jacobs Associates provided recommendations to the construction contractor on behalf of winery owner regarding tunnel rock reinforcement. Jacobs Associates provided engineering services that included tunnel mapping; design of tunnel support; suggestions regarding locations for tunnel support; drainage design recommendations; and design modifications to portal structures.
