00The Jefferson Avenue Underpass Project involved the construction of a grade separation along the CalTrain tracks at Jefferson Avenue. As completed, Jefferson Avenue crosses underneath the mainline CalTrain tracks. Jacobs Associates provided designs for tiedback and cross-lot braced excavations, a temporary prestressed concrete railroad trestle, and falsework for a new railroad bridge. Deep-soil-mix, sheetpile, and soldier pile and lagging shoring walls were used. Shoring for excavations up to 27 feet deep were required to be installed as close as one foot from existing structures, including a four-story masonry apartment building.
