00Construction is underway on the multiple shaft contracts and the main tunnel/shaft contract. The Gilbane/Jacobs Associates JV provides construction management, resident engineering, office engineering and inspection services for all shafts and tunnels.
00In early phases of the project, the Gilbane/Jacobs Associates team, reporting to the program manager, the Louis Berger Group, completed constructability review of the design documents. This review included an evaluation of ground stability and water inflows into the tunnel, feasibility of a one-pass lining, construction methods to be used for work shafts and for access shafts and drop and vent shafts, space requirements for the shaft work, evaluation of construction cost and scheduling methods, recommendations for further study during the final design phase, review of project labor agreements, Owner Controlled Insurance Program (OCIP) safety plans and development of general conditions and Division 1 specification sections. Additional pre-construction services provided by the JV included finalizing the construction management manual and evaluating contractor bids. The project is being completed in up to ten separate construction contracts for the various drop shafts and tunnel/shafts. Construction will continue through 2009.
