00As a specialist subconsultant, Jacobs Associates provided construction management services for this 18-foot diameter rock tunnel approximately 49,600 feet in length located at a depth of 110 to 350 feet below the ground surface. Approximately 48,300 feet of the tunnel were excavated with Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) launched from two construction shafts. The remaining length of tunnel, approximately 1,300 feet long, between the pump station shaft and one of the construction shafts, was constructed by drill and blast techniques. A 1-foot thick concrete liner was installed in areas dictated by geotechnical and hydrogeologic conditions.
