JA Opens Australian Office to Serve Current Clients, Support GrowthOn September 1, 2007, Jacobs Associates opened the doors to our newest branch office in Melbourne, Australia. The firm has a history of working in Australia that dates back to J. Donovan Jacobs’ involvement with the Snowy Mountains hydro-electric tunnels in the 1960s. Since that time, we have provided service on over twenty major contracts in the region, including rail transit tunnels for Melbourne City Loop (also called the Melbourne Underground Rail Loop or MURLA) in the 1970s, the M5 East Motorway in Sydney and Melbourne CityLink tunnels in the 1990s, and more recently the Northern Sewerage Project (NSP) Stages 1 and 2 in Melbourne, and the Boggo Road Busway in Brisbane. |
Recent JA PromotionsOur Boston Area Manager and now Vice President, Rafael Castro, PE, has 18 years of experience in underground design and construction. He recently completed a six-year assignment as Resident Engineer for the Narragansett Bay Commission Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) Program. Rafael opened our Boston office in 2006. Steve Dubnewych, PE, now Vice President, has managed our Los-Angeles-area business operations since 2003. Steve has more than 20 years of experience in heavy civil design and construction. Currently Steve leads tunnel design for the estimated $1-billion Joint Water Pollution Control Plant Tunnel and Ocean Outfall, a project of the Sanitation Districts of Los Angeles County. Recently promoted to Principal and Vice President, John Stolz, PE, has some 27 years of experience in the underground construction industry. His specialties include cost estimating, specifications and contracts, disputes review and resolution, and underground design. John now manages the tunnel and shaft design for the the San Diego County Water Authority's Mission Trails Pipeline Tunnel. Click here to read more about John. Bhaskar Thapa, PE, PhD, a newly minted Associate, has over 13 years of experience in the design and construction of underground structures. Currently Bhaskar leads the initial support design and manages the development of project specifications for the Caldecott Fourth Bore, a project of the California Department of Transportation. Bhaskar works from our San Francisco headquarters.
